The LPGA and investment platform moomoo have announced a new tournament in Hong Kong. It will be called the Futu Ladies World Championship Presented by Moomoo.
The event is set for 4-7 March 2027. It will take place at The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club.
This marks the LPGA’s first tournament in Hong Kong since 1976. The tour last held an event in the city nearly 50 years ago.
The tournament carries a $3.4 million purse. That is the largest purse of any LPGA Tour event held in Asia.
Event Details and Format
A field of 78 players is expected to compete. The tournament will be broadcast in around 130 countries.
The event will close out the LPGA’s 2027 spring Asia swing. That swing also includes stops in Thailand and Singapore.
The tournament is organized alongside SMK, with Futu Holdings Limited serving as title sponsor. The agreement covers multiple years.
Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club sits along the coast and is sometimes compared to Pebble Beach. Organizers pointed to the course as a factor in securing the event.
Comments From Organizers
LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler said the tour looks for markets with strong fan support. He said Hong Kong fit the requirements the tour looks for in a host city.
“This event checks every box we look for,” Kessler said. He named the course, the market, and the timing within the Asia swing.
Neil McDonald, CEO of Moomoo U.S., said the company wanted to invest in women’s sports. He said the partnership aims to support athletes and inspire young players across Asia.
Sum Huang, CEO of SMK, said the tournament aims to become a long-term event for Hong Kong. He described the combination of purse size, course, and partners as central to that goal.
Players have already shown support for the new event. China’s Ruoning Yin, Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit, and the United States’ Andrea Lee attended the official announcement.
The tournament’s theme is “Future is in Play.” Organizers say it reflects a shared commitment to growing women’s golf in the region.
Additional partners for the event include Morgan Stanley, Trip.com Group, Rolex, Tasaki, South China Morning Post, and law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
The tournament also aims to support youth golf development programs in Hong Kong, according to organizers. Plans for the event were shared alongside the athlete appearances at the announcement.
