Anthony Kim Set for LIV Golf Comeback After 12 Years Away

Renewed rumors have 38-year-old former rising star Anthony Kim on the verge of ending his 12-year professional golf absence by joining LIV Golf in March.

After over a decade removed from professional golf, Anthony Kim appears poised to make his long-awaited return with LIV Golf in March.

Rumors of the former rising star teeing it up on the Saudi-backed circuit began swirling last month. But new reports this week lend strong credibility to Kim finally resurfacing at LIV Golf Jeddah from March 1-3.

    Summary

    • Anthony Kim set to make return to pro golf after 12-year absence
    • Word spreading among LIV Golf players that Kim will debut at LIV Golf Jeddah event in March
    • Kim won 3 PGA Tour events between 2008-2010 before disappearing from pro golf in 2012
    • Both LIV Golf and PGA Tour players have expressed interest in seeing Kim return
    • Kim’s comeback would void a long-term injury insurance policy he allegedly cashed in on

Kim burst onto the scene in 2008, notching his first PGA Tour win at the Wachovia Championship that May. Two more victories followed in the next two seasons as the then 20-something displayed immense talent and flair reminiscent of a young Tiger Woods. He even contributed 3.5 points toward the U.S. 2012 Ryder Cup romp of Europe.

But by 2012, Kim had vanished completely from competition without explanation. Injuries took their toll, and it’s believed he cashed in on a lucrative long-term insurance policy that barred future pro golf participation.

Over the past decade, fans held out hope their one-time rising star would return. Now in 2024, at age 38, Kim is reportedly ready to restart his promising career with LIV Golf. The initial source of the recent comeback buzz came from popular golf personality Matt “Mr. Short Game” Fisher.

Citing unspecified contacts, Fisher broke the news last month that Kim had elected to approach LIV about playing. The league’s golfers themselves have since seemed to confirm Kim is not only interested, but plans to make his debut in Saudi Arabia at LIV Golf Jeddah on March 1.

“Word spreading among LIV players that Anthony Kim will make his LIV Golf debut in Jeddah,” tweeted Barstool Sports writer Dan Rapaport this week. Abraham Ancer and other young LIV talent have already expressed excitement about Kim’s addition.

The rebel circuit would welcome Kim with open arms, hungry for name recognition. And it’s reported the PGA Tour may grant Kim past champion access as well. For now, signs point toward the former World #6 ending his self-imposed exile at LIV Golf Jeddah.

If Kim does return as a surprise participant in Saudi Arabia, it will add intrigue to an already newsworthy start to LIV Golf’s 2024 season.
